Joe always loved playing various sports. He played hockey, soccer, lacrosse and street hockey when he was young. He had six sisters which kept things very interesting in the MacDonald house, when he was growing up. Throughout high school Joe played hockey, basketball, badminton, squash and football yet his favourite was football. Joe played football from grades 9 through to grade 12 at LaSalle Secondary school. When he got to grade 13, he played for Nickel District because LaSalle didn’t have enough players for a senior football team. He then played for Sudbury Secondary the next year because he decided to take some extra courses to help with his University applications.
Joe played for the Sudbury Spartans during the summer months in the 80’s. He also played University football for the Carleton Ravens. Joe was a team captain and conference All-Star at his position offensive line, while playing for Carleton.
This short overview of Joe’s Life was written by his best friend Randy Stevens who is also a long time coach in the Joe McDonald league.
